PETITION THE COURT:
STRIKE DOWN THE NY SAFE ACT!
The Governor and the Legislature have violated Article III, Section 14 of our New York State Constitution, which reads:
"No bill shall be passed or become a law unless it shall have been printed and upon the desks of the members, in its final form, at least three calendar legislative days prior to its final passage, unless the governor, or the acting governor, shall have certified, under his or her hand and the seal of the state, the facts which in his or her opinion necessitate an immediate vote thereon"
There was no need for the Senate to waive the three day rule, which they did by approving the bill within 20 minutes of receiving it. There was no need for the Assembly to approve the bill within hours of receiving it, which they did. There was no need for speed. The legislature was not scheduled to adjourn for the year, we were not under attack and there was no natural or man-made disaster.
The Governor"s message of necessity was a sham. It said the bill would immediately ban "e;the ownership, purchase and sale of assault weapons and large capacity ammunition feeding devices"." The bill does not ban the ownership of tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of currently owned assault weapons in NY. Nor does it immediately ban the millions of currently owned large capacity(10+) ammunition feeding devices in NY.
The Governor and the Legislature abused their power by suspending the three-day public review period, not allowing the public to have their say on a matter that infringes on fundamental, constitutional rights and forcing a vote before most legislators could even read the bill.
Those who commit heinous acts against our citizens using assault weapons are not capable of being concerned with what our laws require. This bill changes nothing, except that millions of responsible gun owners are being forced to turn a blind eye to the supreme law of our land while their basic Rights are taken away.
It is treason to the Constitution for a Governor to falsify or manufacture the "facts" in his message of necessity in the interest of political expediency.

We the People of New York have a grievance; the Government of the State of New York is violating the following mandates of our State and Federal Constitution and Law:
Not only is the constitutionally mandated well-regulated "Militia of the Several States" nowhere to be found, the decades-old assault on the right to keep and bear arms is intensifying, as evidenced by the recent adoption of the NY SAFE ACT, the "strictest gun control laws in the nation."
We the People have the ability to peaceably hold our Government accountable by exercising our Right to Petition for Redress of this Grievance.
Several experts have collaborated to write a constitutionally sound, comprehensive, legal Petition for Redress. Once signed by at least 3% of the Population of the State, the Petition will be served on the State legislators, the Governor, the Chief Judge and all Sheriffs and local government officials in NY.
